Schützen-Festzelt

Which tents are there and where?

There are 17 large tents, 14 on the main grounds along Wirtsbudenstraße and Matthias-Pschorr-Straße and 3 on the Oide Wiesn, plus 21 small tents that serve everything from roast chicken and duck to fish, sausages, coffee and cake.

The main entrance is at the north end of Wirtsbudenstraße, next to the Marstall tent. The Oide Wiesn, the historic fair, is the fenced southern part of the grounds with its own gates (Eingang OW 1 and Eingang Oide Wiesn). The rides fill the Schaustellerstraße and the numbered streets, and the Servicezentrum, the building with the festival management, the police, the medical service and the Safe Space for girls and women, stands at the western end of Matthias-Pschorr-Straße. Three tents carry a story in their name. The Löwenbräu-Festzelt is known by its four and a half metre lion, which has guarded the entrance since 1949 and roars from the 37 m tower every minute, and half of Munich arranges to meet unterm Löwen, under the lion. The Boandlkramerei on the Oide Wiesn, hosted by Peter and Petra Schöniger since 2024, with 1,748 seats inside and 1,096 outside, is named after the Boandlkramer, the bone pedlar who is Death in Bavarian folklore and the figure the Tegernsee farmer Brandner Kaspar drinks under the table in Franz von Kobell's story; characters from that story perform in the tent several times a day. The Volkssängerzelt Schützenlisl carries the name of Coletta Möritz, the young woman Friedrich August von Kaulbach painted as the sign of a tent at the German federal shooting festival held on the Theresienwiese in July 1881.

One more thing on the grounds that no tent list names: the Fahrenschon Weißbierkarussell, a bar whose stools and counter turn slowly while you drink. It has been on the Wiesn since 2008, stands at the main entrance on the Wirtsbudenstraße in 2026 and is open daily from 10:00, to 23:00 and to 23:30 on Saturdays.

The last beer of the night has its own word, Zapfschluss, and the city's operating rules for 2026 set it: in the big tents the taps and the music stop at 22:30 and the tent is cleared by 23:30, in the small tents at 23:00, and the two businesses licensed until 01:00, the Käfer Wiesn-Schänke and Kufflers Weinzelt, "müssen den Ausschank und die Musik ... 30 Minuten vor Betriebsende einstellen", so their last order is at 00:30. They keep those hours because they are licensed as bar operations rather than as brewery tents, which also staggers the walk home.

Climb into the head of the Bavaria

Where: Bavaria, Theresienhöhe 16. Opening hours: Daily 09:00 to 18:00, last entry 17:30, 28 March to 18 October 2026; during the festival open until 20:00.

Oide Wiesn: the historic fair

Where: Eingang OW 1, Oide Wiesn. Opening hours: Opening day from 12:00; Mon to Thu 10:00 to 23:30, Fri and Sat 10:00 to 24:00, Sun and 3 Oct 2026 10:00 to 23:30; tents 10:00 to 23:30, bar to 22:30.

Beer and Oktoberfest Museum

Where: Sterneckerstraße 2. Opening hours: Mon to Sat 11:00 to 19:00; closed Sundays and public holidays.

Glockenspiel at Marienplatz

Where: Marienplatz, New Town Hall. Opening hours: Daily 11:00 and 12:00; March to October also 17:00; night scene 21:00.

Deutsches Museum Verkehrszentrum, next door to the meadow

St. Paul church at the north edge of the meadow

Where: St.-Pauls-Platz 11. Opening hours: Open around services; visiting hours are not published.

Tracht: buying or renting Dirndl and Lederhosen

Where: Sendlinger Tor (walk start). Opening hours: Shop hours Mon to Sat; shops closed on Sundays and 3 October 2026.

Each walk with its starting point, when to walk it, the way and the audio stories on it:

Walk: from the station to the meadow

Start: Hauptbahnhof, south exit. When: Any time; the grounds are closed from 01:30 to 09:00. The way and the audio stories: Just under 15 minutes on the marked route from the station's south exit via Bayerstraße and Hermann-Lingg-Straße to the main entrance, with the Bavaria in view at the end; audio stories at Karlsplatz, the Old Botanical Garden and the Wittelsbach Fountain, a short detour before you start.

Walk: the parade route on a quiet day

Start: Max II monument, Maximilianstraße. When: Any time; the parade itself is on Sunday 20 September 2026 from 10:00. The way and the audio stories: The nearly 7 km of the Sunday parade from the Max II monument to the meadow; audio stories at Maximilianstraße, Odeonsplatz, the Feldherrnhalle, Karlsplatz, the Sendlinger Tor and the Theresienwiese.

Walk: brewery heritage of the old town

Start: Hofbräuhaus, Platzl 9. When: Any time; the museum and the market stalls are closed on Sundays and 3 October 2026. The way and the audio stories: The Hofbräuhaus, the Viktualienmarkt and its beer garden, the Weisses Bräuhaus in the Tal, the Isartor, the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum and the Altes Hackerhaus, each with an audio story nearby; best Monday to Saturday except 3 October 2026.

Walk: the cellars of the west

Start: Löwenbräukeller, Stiglmaierplatz. When: Any time. The way and the audio stories: From the Löwenbräukeller to the Augustiner-Keller, through the Old Botanical Garden past the Wittelsbach Fountain to Karlsplatz, then the marked route down to the meadow; audio stories at all five.

What else is there beyond the beer?

Climb the Bavaria, ride the 1919 chain carousel on the Oide Wiesn, visit the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum, and watch the Glockenspiel at Marienplatz.

Inside the Bavaria a staircase leads up the 18.5 m bronze figure of 1850 to a platform in the head with a view over the tents, during the festival until 20:00. The Oide Wiesn keeps three festival tents, the Museumszelt and historic rides such as the Kettenflieger Kalb of 1919. The Beer and Oktoberfest Museum at Sterneckerstraße 2 is open Monday to Saturday 11:00 to 19:00; the Glockenspiel figures dance daily at 11:00 and 12:00.

Families: the family Tuesdays on 22 and 29 September 2026, the Familienplatzl on Straße 3 Ost with a stroller garage and changing table, and the Museumszelt children's programme on the Oide Wiesn on weekdays, none on 3 October 2026.

A quiet moment: the memorial at the main entrance, Bavariaring 5, remembers the 13 people killed and more than 200 injured on 26 September 1980; the wreath is laid on Saturday 26 September 2026 at 08:00.
