Thorndon
Thorndon is Wellington's oldest suburb, settled from 1840 and long the city's elite and governing quarter. Home to Parliament, Premier House and the birthplace of writer Katherine Mansfield, it kept its heritage cottages despite the motorway that tore through it in the 1960s and 1970s.
