Courtenay Place is Wellington's entertainment district, a 440-metre strip of bars, restaurants and historic theatres at the eastern end of the Golden Mile. Home to the 1912 Saint James and 1924 Embassy theatres, it shifted from working-class retail to nightlife from the 1990s.
