Bridge of Sighs

Bridge of Sighs, Venice

An enclosed Baroque bridge of white Istrian stone, built between 1600 and 1603 by Antonio Contino. It carried prisoners from the Doge's Palace courts to the new prison across the canal, and owes its romantic name to a nineteenth-century legend.
