Tunis-Carthage International Airport is Tunisia's main gateway, just east of the capital near ancient Carthage. Tunis–El Aouina was already handling passengers in 1938; international-capacity upgrades began in 1944. As Tunisair's home base, it handled more than 7 million passengers in 2024, connecting the country to Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
