Tsukudajima

Tsukudajima, Tokyo

Tsukudajima is a small former island in Chuo ward, settled around 1612 by fishermen brought from near Osaka by Tokugawa Ieyasu. Birthplace of the preserved food tsukudani, it keeps narrow lanes, old wooden houses, and Sumiyoshi Shrine beneath nearby high-rise towers.
