Tsukiji Hongan-ji

Tsukiji Hongan-ji, Tokyo

Tsukiji Hongan-ji is a Jodo Shinshu temple unlike any other in Tokyo. Rebuilt in 1934 by architect Ito Chuta in an ancient Indian Buddhist style, its carved stone facade, animal sculptures, and pipe organ make it one of the city's most unusual places of worship.
