# White Tower of Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki, Greece

A cylindrical Ottoman tower on the waterfront, built in the 15th century over a Byzantine fortification. Once a seaward bastion and infamous prison, it was whitewashed in 1890 and is now the recognised symbol of Thessaloniki.
