Eleftherias Square, Thessaloniki

A waterfront square once ringed by grand hotels and banks, where the Young Turk Revolution was proclaimed in 1908. In July 1942 it became the site of a brutal Nazi assembly of the city's Jewish men, now marked by a Holocaust memorial.
