Mrs Macquarie's Chair

Mrs Macquarie's Chair, Sydney

Carved from sandstone by convicts in 1810, this bench on a harbour peninsula was shaped for Elizabeth Macquarie, the governor's wife. Tradition holds she sat here watching for ships from Britain, commanding sweeping views toward Fort Denison and the harbour.
