Medina of Sfax

Laid out between 849 and 851 under the Aghlabids, this walled town spans roughly 24 hectares behind ramparts 2,750 meters long. Among the best-preserved medieval medinas in North Africa, it survived the bombing of the Second World War nearly intact.
