Kasbah of Sfax

Built in the 9th century by the Aghlabids as a coastal watchtower at the medina's southwestern corner, this fortress later served governors, Ottoman garrisons, and French gendarmes. Since the 1980s it has housed a museum of Sfax's traditional architecture.
