# Ali Pasha Castle (Butrint)

Saranda, Albania

This rectangular stone fortress stands on a small island at the mouth of the Vivari Channel. Built by the Venetians and later associated with Ali Pasha of Tepelena, it guarded the entrance to the lagoon and protected the use of fishing and land resources.
