Santa Fe's principal historic stage opened on October 5, 1905, with Ponchielli's opera La Gioconda. Designed by architect Juan Augusto Plou in an eclectic, Italian-style horseshoe plan, it crowns its facade with a sculptural group and shelters a painted ceiling within.
