Salvador, Brazil
Old Salvador (City Foundation)

Founded in 1549 by Tomé de Sousa, Salvador served as Brazil's first capital for more than two centuries. Its old town stacks four hundred years of history, from colonial governors and Dutch sieges to slave revolts and Afro-Brazilian culture, into one steep ridge above the bay.
