Castro Alves Monument

A bronze statue of the abolitionist poet Castro Alves rises above one of Salvador's busiest squares. Unveiled in 1923 by sculptor Pasquale de Chirico, it honors the "Poet of the Slaves" and marks the symbolic launch point of Bahian Carnival.
