Trajan's Column

Trajan's Column, Rome

A marble column dedicated in 113 to celebrate the emperor Trajan's conquest of Dacia. A continuous spiral relief winds up its shaft telling the story of the wars in stone, while a statue of Saint Peter, set in place in 1587, now crowns the summit.
