Appian Way, Rome

Rome's most famous ancient road, begun in 312 BCE by the censor Appius Claudius Caecus and eventually reaching Brindisi. Called the queen of roads, it ran lined with grand tombs and mausolea and survives today as a regional park, walkable on its original basalt stones.
