Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
National Museum of Brazil

The National Museum of Brazil, founded in 1818 at Campo de Santana and moved to a former imperial palace in 1892, is the country's oldest scientific institution. A devastating 2018 fire destroyed most of its vast collection, though the Bendegó meteorite survived and reconstruction continues at Quinta da Boa Vista.
