Carioca Aqueduct, Rio de Janeiro

Completed in 1750 to carry fresh water into colonial Rio, the Carioca Aqueduct spans the Lapa district with 42 double-tiered white arches. Since 1896 it has carried the city's last surviving tram, the yellow Santa Teresa streetcar, high above the streets.
