# Vilque

Puno, Peru

Vilque is an altiplano district west of Puno, set at roughly 3,860 meters. In the 19th century its great fair drew traders from Bolivia and Argentina, famous above all for mules brought up from Salta. Today its Quechua communities farm and herd the high plain.
