# Tiradentes Square

Ouro Preto, Brazil

The civic heart of old Vila Rica, this sloping hilltop square is ringed by colonial palaces and museums. At its center stands a monument to Tiradentes, martyr of the failed 1789 independence conspiracy who gave the plaza its name.
