Tamukeyama Hachimangū is a Shinto shrine on the wooded slope above Tōdai-ji, founded in 749 as guardian of the temple. Its deity Hachiman was invited from distant Usa Shrine to protect the building of the Great Buddha, and its grounds blaze with autumn maples.
