Kōriyama Castle
In nearby Yamatokoriyama, Toyotomi Hidenaga began full-scale construction of this castle in September 1585, its walls famously raised from scarce local stone, including temple foundation blocks and even Buddhist statues. Reconstructed gates and towers now overlook one of Japan's celebrated cherry blossom grounds.
