Hokke-ji

Hokke-ji, Nara

A serene convent founded in 745 by Empress Komyo on her father's former estate, once head of Japan's network of provincial nunneries. It treasures an exquisite eleven-headed Kannon said to portray the empress, an old steam bathhouse, and one of Japan's oldest gardens.
