Sound Shell and Sunken Gardens

Sound Shell and Sunken Gardens, Napier

Completed and ceremonially opened in December 1934 on land reclaimed after the 1931 earthquake, the curved white Sound Shell is an open-air Art Deco stage on Marine Parade. Ringed by a colonnade and flower-filled sunken gardens, it remains a venue for concerts and the city's Art Deco festival.
