Rooted in centuries of Wittelsbach collecting, this state museum holds one of Germany's great Egyptian collections. Since 2013 it occupies a striking underground building on the Kunstareal, designed by Peter Böhm, entered through a monumental sunken portal that evokes an ancient temple gateway.
