Navigli

Milan's historic network of navigable canals, begun in the twelfth century to carry goods, irrigate fields, and even float marble to build the Duomo. Largely covered over in the centre, the surviving Naviglio Grande and Naviglio Pavese now form one of Milan's liveliest waterside districts.
