Mexico City, Mexico
National Museum of Anthropology

Opened in 1964 to a modernist design by Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, this is the world's great museum of Mesoamerican culture. Around a courtyard shaded by a giant umbrella fountain, its halls hold the 24-tonne Aztec Sun Stone and colossal Olmec heads.
