# Colossi of Memnon

Luxor, Egypt

Two seated quartzite giants of Amenhotep III, each about 18 meters tall, have guarded the Theban plain since around 1350 before the common era. Once fronting a vast vanished temple, the northern statue famously seemed to sing at dawn in Roman times.
