Catacombs of Lima
Beneath the Convent of San Francisco lie Lima's colonial catacombs, where bones were arranged in geometric patterns. Begun by Franciscans in 1546 and used until 1810, this underground cemetery is thought to hold the remains of approximately 25,000 people.
