Tofuku-ji, founded in 1236 by Kujo Michiie, is a great Rinzai Zen temple whose name borrows from Nara's Todai-ji and Kofuku-ji. It holds Japan's oldest Zen main gate and a celebrated maple valley crossed by the Tsutenkyo bridge.
