Kruja, Albania

The ruins of an Illyrian city cover more than eight hectares of hillside, five kilometres from Krujë, with one thousand four hundred metres of polygonal walls dating from the fifth to the third centuries before Christ. Many scholars identify the site with Albanopolis, the possible capital of the Albanoi tribe, whose name may have given rise to the name Alban, used by foreigners.
