Friedrich Ebert, Germany's first democratically elected head of state, was born here in 1871, in a tailor's cramped flat. Opened in 1962, the memorial preserves his birthplace and traces, across ten rooms, his rise from saddler's apprentice to president of the Weimar Republic.
