# Lake Viroi

Gjirokastra, Albania

This artificial lake covers about seventeen hectares and lies three kilometres north of the city. Created in the nineteen fifties, it was declared a natural monument in nineteen eighty-two. Beneath its surface lies a karst cave measuring two hundred and seventy-nine metres, discovered on the twenty-third of July, two thousand and sixteen, by the Polish diver Krzysztof Starnawski.
