# Cold War Tunnel

Gjirokastra, Albania

Enver Hoxha's regime built this underground shelter in the nineteen seventies, with fifty-nine rooms and around eight hundred metres of corridors, to accommodate three hundred people in the event of a nuclear attack. Opened as a museum in two thousand and fourteen, it bears witness to the paranoia of a regime that awaited an apocalypse that never came.
