# Obelisk of Education

Gjirokastra, Albania

Made from one hundred and twenty-four stone blocks brought from the village of Progonat, this monument stands seven metres tall. It honours the teachers of Liria, Gjirokastër's first Albanian-language school, which opened in nineteen oh eight. It is the work of the sculptors Dhrami, Kostaqi and Papamihali, who were awarded the title Honour of the City in two thousand and eight.
