# Gjirokastër Castle

Gjirokastra, Albania

The second-largest castle in the Balkans has roots in early antiquity, though their precise dating remains disputed. Ali Pasha of Tepelena gave it its present form between eighteen twelve and eighteen twenty-one. Today it houses the National Armaments Museum, the American T thirty-three aircraft from nineteen fifty-seven and the amphitheatre of the National Folklore Festival.
