# Klein Begijnhof (Small Beguinage)

A walled enclave of brick houses behind whitewashed garden walls, around a church and green, founded in 1235 for the beguines, lay religious women. Known as Our Lady ter Hoyen, this small beguinage is one of Ghent's best preserved and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
