# Fortress of Sao Jose da Ponta Grossa

Built in the 1740s on the island's north point, this Portuguese colonial fort helped guard the entrance to the bay. One of the best-restored of the bay defenses, it keeps its chapel, barracks, cannon, and sweeping coastal views.
