Durrës Castle

The city walls, Byzantine in origin, were strengthened under the emperors Anastasius and Justinian and later rebuilt by the Venetians and Ottomans. They reveal successive phases of construction along the same defensive line. Today, sections of wall can be seen among cafés, along with gateways blocked with stones.
