Byzantine Forum

This circular square, about forty metres across and surrounded by Corinthian columns, lies several metres below today's street level. Once thought to be a Roman market, it is now more often regarded as the civic forum of Byzantine Dyrrachium, although the sequence of construction phases remains disputed.
