New Brighton

New Brighton is a seaside suburb on Christchurch's east coast, named in 1860 after Brighton in England. Its landmark pier, first opened in 1894 and rebuilt in 1997, reaches far over Pegasus Bay. Once famous for Saturday shopping, it is now a renewing beachside community.
