Fortitude Valley
Named after the immigrant ship Fortitude, whose settlers arrived in 1849, this Brisbane suburb grew from grand department stores into the city's nightlife heart. In 2005 it became Australia's first Special Entertainment Precinct, protecting its live-music venues.
