Berlin, Germany
Kreuzberg

A dense former working-class district named after a hill crowned by Schinkel's 1821 war monument. Walled in on three sides during the Cold War, it became Berlin's capital of punks, squatters and Turkish immigrants, and remains the city's most defiantly multicultural quarter.
