Beijing National Stadium, nicknamed the Bird's Nest, was built between 2003 and 2008 for the Summer Olympics. Designed by Herzog and de Meuron with Li Xinggang and Ai Weiwei, its lattice of interlocking steel wraps a bowl seating tens of thousands.
