Wat Phutthaisawan, Ayutthaya

Founded in 1353 by Ayutthaya's first king, Ramathibodi I, Wat Phutthaisawan rises on the river's west bank. Its tall white Khmer-style prang stands within a cloister lined with golden Buddha images, one of the kingdom's earliest royal monasteries.
