Aotea Square

Auckland's principal civic square opened in 1979 beside the Town Hall and Aotea Centre. A broad paved plaza for markets, concerts and protests, it is marked at its Queen Street edge by the Waharoa, a carved gateway by Māori sculptor Selwyn Muru.
