Tower of the Winds

Tower of the Winds, Athens

An octagonal marble tower built by Andronicus of Cyrrhus around the first century BCE, combining sundials, a water clock and a weathervane. Reliefs of eight personified winds wrap its upper frieze, making it the ancient world's surviving meteorological station and timepiece.
