Arch of Hadrian

Arch of Hadrian, Athens

A marble gateway about 18 metres high, raised around 131 CE in honour of the emperor Hadrian. Two inscriptions mark it as a symbolic boundary, naming the old city of Theseus on one side and the new city of Hadrian on the other.
